Lisa Schoenfeld

Lisa R. Schoenfeld is a partner in the matrimonial practice of Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, PLLC. She is admitted to the New York State Bar, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the United States Supreme Court. Since her admission to the Bar, she has practiced exclusively in matrimonial and family law at Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, PLLC, and assisted the firm in the matter of Frankel v. Frankel, 2 N.Y.3d 601, 814 N.E.2d 37, 781 N.Y.S.2d 59 (2004), a significant decision that solidified the rights of non-monied spouses to receive counsel fee awards. Lisa has litigated and negotiated settlements of many complex custody and financial matters.

Lisa is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and The New York Bar Foundation. Lisa has been selected as a Super Lawyer every year since 2016 and was previously selected as a “Rising Star” in New York Family Law each year from 2013 through 2015. She is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale Hubbell and was named one of the Top Ten Leaders in Divorce Law – Under 45, Long Island, New York. She has been selected for inclusion in “Best Lawyers in America”. Lisa was also the first recipient of the Young Matrimonial Attorney of the Year Award, presented by the Nassau County Bar Association’s Matrimonial Committee on June 10, 2009. Additionally, the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association presented her with the Bessie Ray Geffner, Esq. Memorial Award on June 22, 2009 in recognition of her demonstrated interest in improving the justice system and her service to the legal profession and the community. She was nominated by the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association to receive the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award, which is awarded annually by the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York.

Lisa has lectured to the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the Matrimonial Committee and Surrogate’s Courts Estates & Trusts Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau Academy of Law, the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association Young Lawyers Section, the New York State Family Law American Inn of Court, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.

Lisa received her Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and her Juris Doctor degree, with distinction, from Hofstra University School of Law where she graduated in the top five (5) percentile of her class.

While at Hofstra, Lisa was a member of the Hofstra Law Review and served as an Articles Editor. She authored two articles: “Are the Rockefeller Drug Laws Killing the Messenger for the Sake of the Message?”, published in the Hofstra Law Review at 30 Hofstra Law Rev. 557, and “It’s 10:00 p.m. Do You Know Where Your Children Are?”. This article dealt with parental kidnapping and was published in the Family Court Review at 40 Fam. Ct. Review 251. She and Stephen W. Schlissel, Esq. co-authored an article titled: “‘Frye’ and ‘Daubert’ Questions Crop Up in the Family Law Arena”, which was published in the New York Law Journal on July 1, 2003, at page 16, column 1.

Lisa was awarded a number of honors for academic achievement, including the Edward J. Hart Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Trial Advocacy, the Hofstra Law School Excellence in Family Law Award, the Brandeis Association Scholarship, a Merit Scholarship for Academic Excellence and various other awards. She participated in the Hofstra Child Advocacy Clinic and the Courtroom Advocates Project/Domestic Violence Clinic where she represented individuals in court under the supervision of an attorney. She also appeared in the 2002 Edition of “Who’s Who: American Law Students”.

Lisa is a member of numerous organizations, including the Nassau County Bar Association, Matrimonial and Family Law Committees (2002-Present), Judiciary Committee (2017-Present); New York State Bar Association, Family Law Section (Co-Chair, Membership Committee (2013-Present)) and Executive Committee Member (2008-Present), Section on Women in the Law (Treasurer, 2017-Present), Young Lawyers Section (Chair (2013-2014)); Nassau County Women’s Bar Association (Chair – Matrimonial Committee (2009-2013)); and the New York State Family Law American Inn of Court.
